Description

Dachshund - Small - Adult - Male - Dog - Max

Please contact Jeff Tarpley (JEFFnTEXARKANA@aol.com) for more information about this pet. Lindsay's Baby. Max the Dachshund... Meet Max! Max is a male red pure bred Dachshund. He is 5 years old and weighs 12 pounds. Max was fully vetted 5/23/08 which included his neuter, shots with rabies and heartworm tested negative. He restarted heartworm prevention and is having frontline placed on him for flea control. Max’s previous owner Lindsay paid for all the vetting. Pictures taken 11/9/08. Max was owner surrendered 5/21/08 to Jeff Tarpley Rescue because of a dog fight with another dog that lived in the home. Max’s owner Lindsay of Texarkana, Texas knew if Max went to the shelter he would be put to sleep as soon as he walked in because of his attitude towards other dogs, strangers and with food. Lindsay sent out a plea to help Max. I went to visit Max that night and found him to be aggressive towards me. Lindsay had to put the other family pet in the garage to prevent another encounter of fighting. An hour had past and I was able to get Max into my truck. When Max and I left my heart sunk to see Lindsay saying goodbye with tears in her eyes. Lindsay emails, calls and even visits Max to see how he is doing. Max’s journey during his first 5 years of life was normal. Lindsay was single and bought Max as a puppy from a local breeder. Lindsay married, adopted a second dog, this time at the Texarkana Animal Shelter and then had a baby. With the changes in life, Max was not number one anymore. The usual life changes affected Max. I only had Max for two days prior to going to the vet. Max had bitten my left index finger getting him in the truck. We made it to the vet clinic and I warned them about the possible problems. That afternoon I went to pick Max up. One of the vet techs went to go get Max. She came back and said, “I think you should pick him up.” I went and picked up Max and he again bites the same finger in the same place. The vet clinic was surprised because I always have had happy go lucky dogs thus far. We made it home with just two bites. Max is really coming around. He is becoming a playful lap dog. His large ears are really cute. Most of the scars from the dog fight are gone. Just some more time is needed for the hair to grow back. I can give him a kiss and flip him over for a tummy rub. Max loves to go for a ride. Everyone waves who sees him riding shot gun in the truck. Max is still a little aggressive about his food. He has come along way from his old actions. At this point I think Max would do best in a home without children under 10 and he will need to adjust to other animals in the home. 7/1/08 I have recently introduced Max to Black Jack. Black Jack is another Dachshund I thought was dog aggressive. Both of these Dachshunds are getting along well. Just a couple of hours spent together and they are best friends. Special thank you and a big hug to Lindsay. I promise to find your Max a wonderful home To apply for adoption please email JEFFnTEXARKANA@aol.com to received an adoption application.
